Bangkok is the capital and largest city of Thailand. Known in Thai as Krung Thep Mahanakhon was a small trading post at the mouth of the Chao Phraya River during the Ayutthaya Kingdom. He came to the foreground of Siam, when he received the status of capital city in 1768, after burning Ayutthaya. However, the current Rattanakosin kingdom did not begin until 1782, when he moved the capital across the river by Rama I, after the death of King Taksin.
The Rattanakosin capital now formally called “Phra Nakhon”, and belongs to the ancient boundaries of the metropolitan core. From the eighteenth century, the name includes the accumulation of Bangkok city with its own government and their own governor.
