New York is the most populous city in the United States of America and the city with more population density of North America. The city is the center of international finance, politics, communications, music, fashion and culture. New York (along with cities like London, Tokyo and Paris) is considered a global city in the world and is home to an almost unrivaled collection of internationally renowned museums, galleries, venues, hundreds of corporations and consulates international partners with the United Nations, which are based in this city.
Located in upstate New York, New York City has an area of 800 km2. With 8,175,133 residents (2010), called New Yorkers, is the heart of the New York metropolitan area, which is one of the largest crowds of the world, with over 22 million inhabitants. In addition, immigrants from over 180 countries live in the city and make it one of the most cosmopolitan places in the world. People from all over the United States itself, are also attracted by the culture, energy, cosmopolitan city. The city comprises five districts: Brooklyn, the Bronx, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island, which could be for themselves an independent city with over one million inhabitants each (except Staten Island). Furthermore, is the epicenter of the Tri-state area (which includes the states of New Jersey, New York and Connecticut) and the metropolis of BosWash.
The New York City is an enormous engine for the global economy and the U.S. city with most of its major companies in this country. It is estimated that the city would have a budget of nearly 500,000 million. If New York were an independent country, the city would be the seventeenth in the world regarding the budget exceeds by far Switzerland (377 000 million) and almost equaled Russia (with 586,000 million).
