Brasilia is the capital of the Brazilian state .in 2010 it had a population of 2.5 million inhabitants. On 21st April 1960 , the then President Juscelino Kubitschek gave the Brazilian capital to Brasilia, which was previously located at Rio de Janeiro.
The city was built to become the capital, it took 41 months from 1956, and the opening ceremony was held in in 1960. The city plan was based on the ideas of Le Corbusier and the architects were Lucio Costa ( City ) , Oscar Niemeyer (the majority of public buildings ) and Roberto Burle Marx (landscape ) .
Brasilia was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1987. The city original town plan was designed in such a way that the traffic jammed without traffic lights . Through interchanges and roads were built with long curved ramps . The city grew planned to be larger, but still the traffic is much better than in other Brazilian cities.
